Oromotor Disorders

An oral motor disorder is characterized by difficulty controlling the lips, tongue and jaw during feeding and/or speech tasks

If your child exhibits the following symptoms, consult paediatrician and speech therapists to assess for possible oromotor disorders:

  • Drooling
  • Difficult to be understood
  • Robotic sounding speech
  • Difficulty imitating words on request
  • Groping with the tongue, lips, or jaw when attempting to speak
  • Feeding difficulties

Speech therapists assess child’s oromotor functions and deliver an individualized treatment. Appropriate training will be targeted to improve child’s oromotor functions and/or coordination
