Oromotor Disorders
An oral motor disorder is characterized by difficulty controlling the lips, tongue and jaw during feeding and/or speech tasks
If your child exhibits the following symptoms, consult paediatrician and speech therapists to assess for possible oromotor disorders:
- Drooling
- Difficult to be understood
- Robotic sounding speech
- Difficulty imitating words on request
- Groping with the tongue, lips, or jaw when attempting to speak
- Feeding difficulties
Speech therapists assess child’s oromotor functions and deliver an individualized treatment. Appropriate training will be targeted to improve child’s oromotor functions and/or coordination
