There are numerous causes of dysphonia, including inflammation (laryngitis, laryngopharyngeal reflux), voice misuse and overuse, etc
If your child has voice disorders, his/her voice may sound:
- harsh or hoarse
- too high or too low
- too loud or too soft, or they may ‘lose’ their voice entirely
- as though they are speaking through a blocked nose
- as though too much air is coming down through the nose during speech.
Speech therapists conduct thorough assessments to look for underlying causes, and help children to understand how to use the voice properly.
